Yahoo! (http://www.yahoo.com) has been the biggest site on the 'Net for many years now. In the beginning it was considered important to get a listing in their directory.

A few years ago their service quality dropped and they started charging for commercial listings. When Yahoo! started using Google (http://www.google.com) to generate web search results, having an actual listing in Yahoo!'s directory seemed less important as long as your site was listed in Google.
