<- NEW!!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Let’s hope you’re wearing a Bit O’ Green to avoid
a pinch or two. Why not taking some time today to enjoy a pint of green
ale or an Irish coffee… or two?
Well-known holidays and observances (at least in North America &
the UK) are great opportunities to have a sale on a specific product or
service. By using this way to stay in contact with your customers, they
soon realize you have specials corresponding to these holidays. And of
course, once they’ve discovered your company’s exceptional customer service,
your customers will soon be doing business with you on a regular basis –
without needing a sale to bring them in!

To Dash or Not To Dash
Recently, there has been some speculation within the campaign for improved
Search Engine Optimization that by separating keywords in a Domain Name
by dashes it helps increase a site’s Search Engine Ranking.
But first, before dashing your way into the heart of Search Engines,
consider its true feasibility and the fact that there are many more powerful
and effective ways that a web site can be marketed to Search Engines. Making
the domain name more difficult for people to use while complicating its
marketability does not really justify any slight ranking improvement that
long-dashed Domain Names might bring.
To-date our research and experience has concurred that no Search Engine
has stated that their algorithm (program that decides how they rank web sites)
is influenced by breaking up words within a Domain Name with dashes. In
addition, neither Globi nor any of our affiliates have seen any evidence
that this is being considered by Search Engines.
Remember, Search Engines take numerous criteria into account when deciding
rankings - not just keywords in a Domain Name. Globi Web Solutions still
advises our clients to choose Domain Names which are representative of their
business and are relatively easy to type as, after all, Domain Names are
still marketed primarily to people – not Search Engines.
So, if your challenge is to get a unique Domain Name, a suggestion might
be to simply try switching some keywords around instead. But leave the
dashes to catching buses or the thing that keeps your air bag from getting
in the way.
First
Impressions Count!
When people first access your web site, what kind of impression is your
company giving? It only takes a few seconds to leave that all-important
first impression with your potential clients. And, as you know, first impressions
can sometimes be difficult to change.
Some Tips on Making a Good First Impression with Your Home Page.
- Clearly
and quickly show what your web site is about and what your company has
to offer. People tend to quickly scan the Home page to see if what they’re
looking for matches what you have before they decide to continue browsing
your site.
- Your site
navigation should be easy to find and use. Make it extremely obvious where
to go to find out about your products and/or services.
- Time your
website. Ready – Set – Go! You website should take no longer than 10 seconds
to load. Any longer than that and that potential client may look elsewhere
for their needs.
Be sure
that you’re making a good first impression. Call Globi Web Solutions to
help you capture that image and the clients you deserve.

How to
Use Email Marketing Without SPAM
You have a website, but no opt-in list of email addresses. You've heard
about the power of email marketing and you've heard your friends complain
about unsolicited email. You don't want to be the guy who gets mail bombed
or looses his ISP <Internet Service Provider> because he sent a message
that offended somebody, but you do want more traffic.
Here is what I suggest:
- Build
a great website that will appeal to search engines and submit it to the top
ones by hand.
- Email
your friends, family, and colleagues to invite them to your website and ask
them to spread the word to their own friends, family and colleagues.
- Post non-sales
messages to related topics on bulletin boards, newsgroups, and discussion
lists. Include a powerful signature file. It should include a benefit-laden
headline, response email and a URL.
- Read
as many marketing articles as possible for more ideas.
- Advertise
your website offline, too.
Good luck!

Mystery
Meat Navigation
>From time to time, we still come across web sites that work against
their visitors' surfing enjoyment. Each month we cover some of these faux
pas to avoid.
You’ve seen those sites that use symbols instead of text for their site
navigation. For example, a link to a Products page that uses an image such
as a swirl or a rotating box. It’s a mystery how this image tells visitors
that it links to a Products page.
Websites that use this type of ‘mystery meat’ navigation, forces visitors
to have to click on all the navigation images in order to find the page
they are actually looking for. As you can imagine, this greatly annoys
them by not presenting information clearly and usually results in visitors
closing the site to looking elsewhere for their needs.
Be respectful of your visitor’s time, and give them the information they
are looking for quickly and easily.

"Thanks!
Since Globi took over hosting my website and making whatever adjustments
they made to the structure of my web site, I’ve landed at least 3 large contracts
that found me through my website. Like when Walt Disney Stores said that
they did a web search for a handyman in Calgary and mine was the only site
that showed up in the results!
I don’t know what you guys did, but I never got that kind of action from
my site before! Now, I’ve got another offer from a company in Michigan
to do a bunch of work for them here in Calgary.”
