Well, Spring is finally in the air and with that I ventured out to a fairly new café that I experienced just a couple times before. In fact, as I recall, my first visit to this café was amazing! Immediately as I walked in I was greeted warmly by the owner, I was introduced to the array of special teas they had, invited to find a table while they prepared my order, and was able to relax while listening to some cool, funky music!
The next visit a few weeks later was okay. Not quite as memorable as the first. I didn't get the warm greeting as the first time; I saw the owner was stacking shelves, I knew where the tea was and helped myself, and still managed to enjoy the relaxing music all the same.
Well, my last visit to the café was almost like being in a different place. The music was missing, and tables were cluttered with cups. I looked around the room to see the owner sitting at a table of papers. I hesitate to go back and wait for the sign to change.
Customers like consistency - actually, they need it! Take MacDonald's for example: unless you're 9 years old, you understand that their burgers are nothing to scream about but you know that each time you go in there you will get exactly the same experience as the last time and the many times before that.
Consistently strong customer service reflects stability. So show your customers that you're here to stay and they'll reward you with their return!
Top Ten Trends to Watch if You Market on the Internet
-
There are more women online now than men, 52% vs. 48%.
Consider putting something else for your chatline photo besides a 20 year old Anglo woman.
- 61% of women buy online rather than off, and 55% of men do so.
If you're marketing your power tools with a bikini babe, you get a C-.
- Women in America make up to 80% of the purchasing decisions for the family.
- At-home female users in the US are increasing faster than males. (Nielsen NetRatings)
- Individuals with household incomes from $100,000 to $150,000 are the fastest growing income group online. (Nielsen NetRatings)
Got something for them to buy on your website?
- 44% of US adults over 18 are single, and the AASP projects by 2010, 47.2% will be.
If you're a cruise line and offer neither a true singles' rate nor Gentleman dance hosts, you flunk.
- According to the Census Bureau, the American adult will spend more time unmarried than married.
Are you considering singles in the products you offer?
- TamingTheBeast says users from India are coming on strong.
"Up until now," they say, "the Internet has been very focused on the US ...[but] by 2003, the Asia Pacific region will catch up and overtake in regards to Internet usage." If you're alienating the huge singles' and Islamic markets in your Christmas marketing, you get a D+ for your Internetmarketing EQ test. And consider submitting your websites to the Asia-Pacific search engines and indices.
- And what's the "US" internet anyway? There are 80 million multicultural Americans in the US now, with over 1 million new immigrants yearly.
Brush up on multi-cultural selling. Get Michael Lee's "Opening Doors," for starters. Get a currency converter on your website: http://www.xe.com , and get used to some different terminology. Look for "self understanding" on Australian websites, and "advertorials."
- Richard Goosey, international chief of measurement science, Nielsen//NetRatings, identifies Spain as the next great Internet market.
The global Internet population grew by 4% in 11 major Internet markets during 2002 (Nielsen NetRatings), most notably in Spain, which registered a 22 percent increase to 17 million users. Habla espanol?

Cheaper is not Necessarily Better
If you think a professional website is expensive, wait until you hire an amateur!
Did you know that the average "dime a dozen" web designer will often build a website using prefab'ed web kits such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver? These prefab'ed kits result in a lot of unnecessary code - thereby bogging down visitors' browsers and hindering Search Engine results.
Furthermore, these prefab'ed sites are also laden with 'common scripts' which are targets for hackers trying to distribute porn and other nasty spam. Case and point on a website that Globi recently took over the development of - where this old 'common script' portal was tapped into, thereby threatening the loss of our IP's.
Not to worry. With Globi's ability to review the code, we were able to locate and disable this hacker's portal and… everyone, except the hacker, lived happily ever after!
At Globi Web Solutions, your website is developed from raw code specifically in HTML, PHP, and often directly on NotePad. Translation: not only do you receive a clean and efficient web site but you also receive the benefit of seeing professional design and search engine results in half the time and at half the cost to you!
Who is Your Business Name Branding?
From time to time.... no, actually all too often, we still see businesses voluntarily advertising for Telus, Shaw, or worse yet - a cheap service like Hotmail! You've made the effort to take your business to the web and are even sending out business emails. So now, more than ever, be sure that you're name branding YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
Yes, you@YourBusinessWebsite.com!!
You can still redirect it to your service provider like Telus or Shaw (preferably not Hotmail, though). Then simply setup a mock email account to use your professional email address.
So stop advertising other people's businesses and start getting yours front and center!
And remember, one day you'll send out some email not directly related to your business when someone will say, "oh yeah, they have just the service that I need! …Now where is that old email from them?"
Just one an example of the "little things" that Globi Hosting provides to all their clients. And for the power of name branding and multiple email address go to www.globihosting.com!
Disappearing Navigation
From time to time, we come across websites that work against their visitors' surfing enjoyment and so each month we cover some of these faux pas to avoid.
How often have you wanted to navigate back to a particular page on a website only to find that, for some reason, the navigation has disappeared entirely! This leaves you with the only choice of having to repeatedly click your browser's 'back' button until you find some navigation that will allow you to access the desired page. How irritating!!
Or how about those sites that say "Order Now!" or "Check out Our Specials" but you're unable to find a link on the page to do so? Yet another great way to lose a potential client!
Make sure the navigation within your site is available on every page and easy to find. If you have eCommerce, make it easy for people to access your Shopping Cart. If you want them to check out a Special or go to your Order Form, be sure the link is just a click away.
