1. Editor's Remarks

US editor and novelist Edgar Watson Howe once stated that "doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing, but nobody else does."

There have always been numerous ways to advertise your business; Newspapers, magazines, billboards, TV, radio, or simply word of mouth. There are also many forms of advertising in the on-line arena, where the object is not to simply attract visitors to your place of business or showroom, but firstly to your website. As with most advertising, the most cost-effective methods are the ones most frequently utilized by companies. One of the best on line marketing strategies today is pay per click, where you only pay for actual clicks on your site. Sounds good, doesn't it, but what's it all about?

2. Feature Article

Pay Per Click (PPC) Campaigns

Pay Per Click is a search engine marketing strategy, where advertisers pay a set amount every time their ad is clicked by a prospect. This is known as a click-through. A PPC Search Engine enables you to list your website at the top of specific search engine results of your target audience. Your positioning depends on the keywords you want associated with your site, but also on the amount you are prepared to budget towards your enhanced listing.

Think of it as an auction for the number one position. Advertisers bid against each other for higher rankings with regard to the use of specific keywords. In other words, the higher you bid, the higher your site is placed. However, unlike a print ad, with pay per click you only pay when a web-user actually clicks on your listing and connects through to your site.

The other beautiful thing about a Pay Per Click campaign is that it's also measurable. For example, you know that the average cost for a particular phrase is 10¢ and on average it takes 100 click-throughs to make a sale. You can then easily calculate that each new customer is costing you $10. Once you know the math, it's simply a case of doubling your PPC investment to double your sales.

While there are all sorts of clever strategies that one can adopt to allow you to stretch your Pay Per Click marketing budget, make sure you call Globi to help manage your campaigns for you, ensuring your return on investment is always optimized. 4. Web Site Tip

The False Trail

In a previous newsletter we talked about using interactive features in your website to encourage clients to return. Of course, it goes without saying that if the technology is not up to par, you will also succeed very nicely in turning off your customers for good.

Have you ever been to a website that said 'click here for a map', for example, only to find that the map either takes forever to load, or is the wrong map, which then won't enlarge to see the details properly? We've also all been to sites where we are invited to fill out a form, only to find that it is impossible to complete. Make sure this doesn't happen to you.

It may be just a temporary glitch or something out of your control, such as a server issue, but it still needs to be fixed as soon as possible. It's a competitive world out there. If your website isn't working the way it should, people who visit it will quickly assume your products probably won't perform either.

5. Marketing Tip

What's in a Name?

Websites still abound where the company selling it's own products and services doesn't even have their own domain name. It may not seem that important, but your site's name can be a huge factor in your gaining recognition on the web. There's really no excuse today for not having your own domain name and it doesn't have to cost you a fortune to get obtain one either.

Of course, it may not be possible to get the exact name you want. Countless new sites appear every day on the web and the name you would like may be already taken. If that's the case, choose a unique, sensible and easy to remember domain name. Celebrities in movies, music and other fields over the last century have changed their names for a reason. They wanted to stand out and they wanted to be remembered. The same principle applies to your domain name if your want people to find you, remember you and eventually do business with you.

6. Web Site Faux Pas

Scrolling to Oblivion

People are scouring the web for information twenty four hours a day, every day all over the world. Let's say you have what they are looking for and they visit your site. Your products or services are of interest, and you have a possible sale. Yet your potential customer will not waste valuable time reading all the content on your home page if they have to scroll and scroll into oblivion. It's much better and certainly more user friendly to break up the home page into two or three separate sections.

7. Feedback

"I want to tip my hat to you and your staff. I was most pleased at every step of the process. From the initial discussions of the site design to going live on the web was made easy through the professional, friendly and accommodating interaction with all those involved. As time progresses I hope the site will also develop and grow with changing technologies and additional features. I have already received positive feed back from associates who have visited the site.
Again, thank you!"
